Robb Spivey

English Country Dancing Master

Robb Spivey, land surveyor by day, English country dancer and steel pan player by night.Dancing

Taking a break from his graduate forestry studies in 1976, Robb stumbled across English Country Dancing in New Haven and has been dancing ever since. He moved to Maine in 1978, and has led dances here and elsewhere in New England, as opportunities arise.

Robb was also heavily involved in English ritual dancing for over 20 years, including Cotswold Morris, Border Morris, Molly Dancing, Longsword and Rapper, as a member of Fiddler’s Reach Morris and Sword, and he was an organizer and participant in Twelfth Night celebrations in Portland for a dozen years.  As Morris Dancing eventually took a toll on knees and ankles, he concentrated his efforts on spreading the joy of English Country Dancing, which is much kinder to joints.  He can also be spotted at an occasional contra or Scottish country dance.
