Nationally prominent multi-instrumentalist Matt Flinner returns to 317 Main on Thursday, March 21 to lead a hands-on workshop on the “Fundamentals of Instrumental Composition.” The workshop is geared toward players of all instruments.
Students will look at ways of writing tunes in a “roots” music style: bluegrass, fiddle tunes, old-time tunes, and new acoustic and/or jazz-related styles.
Matt will discuss what makes a good tune by looking at examples, examining common forms, exploring melodic development, and discussing how to create interesting textures.
Participants will also look at examples of works-in-progress or finished tunes brought in by fellow students.
Time permitting, students will write a tune together as a group.
The workshop is open to the public and will be held Thursday, March 21 from 7-9 pm at 317 Main in Yarmouth.
The cost is $25. Email the Front Desk at 317 Main to reserve your spot or call (207) 846-9559.
