Dobro refers to a particular kind of resonator guitar trademarked by its inventors, the Dopyera Brothers, who linked the first syllables of Dopyera and Brothers to name their creation. The term is now commonly used to refer to all brands of this style of lap guitar. The dobro is similar to the guitar, but played on the lap (or standing using a sturdy strap). The player changes pitch by pressing a metal or glass bar against the strings instead of finger-pressing the fretboard.
