Mike Block String Camp 2013

July 22 – July 27, 2013 on Mackworth Island, Maine

Mike Block String Camp, Mackworth Island, Maine

A number of 317 Main faculty will join cellist and music educator Mike Block this summer in July at the inaugural Mike Block String Camp on Mackworth Island in Portland.

The world-class faculty will provide instruction in multiple non-classical traditions, help students develop improvisational skills, and coach groups in the creation of new music. Students will have the opportunity to perform, improvise, compose, and arrange music by collaborating closely with peers in small ensembles, which receive daily coachings by faculty.

The camp is open to all ages, levels, and stylistic backgrounds and maintains a low student-teacher ratio in group classes, which are divided by ability level so everyone learns in an environment of their peers.

This summer’s teaching staff includes 317 instructors Melissa Bragdon (fiddle), Erica Brown (fiddle), Ron Cody (banjo), Robin Jellis (cello), Carter Logan (banjo, dobro, guitar, bass) Lincoln Myers (guitar), Nicole Rabata (Irish flute), Steve Roy (bass), and Jed Wilson (piano).

They will be joined by Jason Anick (fiddle/mandolin), Mike Block (cello), Hanneke Casse (Scottish fiddle)l, Laura Cortese fiddle/voice), Matt Glaser (jazz and folk fiddle), Liz Knowles (Irish fiddle), Lauren Rioux (old-time fiddle), Rob Thomas (jazz violin/bass), and Joe Walsh (bluegrass mandolin).
