Discovery Camp Director
317 Main is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative summer leader to coordinate and manage our Discovery Camp programming for students ages 6–10. The Discovery Camp Director will oversee daily operations, support a team of Teaching Artists, and create a joyful, music-filled environment that inspires creativity and connection.
This is a seasonal, hourly position expected to work on-site during camp hours (M–F, 8:30am–3:30pm) from June 23 through August 22, 2025. Some flexible, part-time hours will be needed in early June for onboarding and preparation.
The Discovery Camp Director reports to the Director of Music Education and works closely with 317 Main’s Teaching Artist faculty and administrative staff.
Key Responsibilities:
Camp Operations & Program Leadership
Oversee and manage daily camp operations, including:
Leading morning meetings, group games, and transitions between activities
Managing daily attendance, camper needs, and room assignments
Supporting weekly Friday camper performances
Collecting and managing camper health forms and responding to basic health-related concerns
Curriculum Coordination
Implement and revise weekly camp curriculum in collaboration with the Director of Music Education
Ensure Teaching Artists have materials and schedules in advance
Staff Supervision & Training
Support and guide Teaching Artists in their camp roles
Facilitate staff orientation prior to the first week of camp
Family Communications
Send weekly welcome emails to families
Be the on-site point of contact for camper check-in and family questions
Provide a warm and supportive presence for campers and caregivers throughout the summer
Qualifications:
Required
Experience working with children in educational, musical, or camp settings
Strong communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to lead groups and manage dynamic schedules
Comfort working independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment
Proficiency with Google Suite and Microsoft Office tools
Preferred
Experience supervising staff or leading youth programs
Familiarity with community arts education and/or music instruction
First Aid/CPR certification
Basic knowledge of Jackrabbit or other camp registration systems
Compensation:
$24.00–$26.00/hour, commensurate with experience. This is a seasonal, hourly position with no benefits. Approximately 35 hours/week for 9 weeks, plus some prep time in early June.
