Michael Sabin
Teaches: Trumpet, Trombone, and Euphonium (Baritone)
Teaching Philosophy: We’ll work on identifying what excites and interests you about music, what songs make you feel emotion (and why). With that, comes work on the technical skills that will help you create those feelings for yourself, improve your abilities to practice at home, and play music with other people.
Music Influences: I’m interested in a huge breadth of music, and part of what I love most is listening to something that is not quite like anything I’ve heard before. I’ve learned (and continue to learn) a lot about music and my own voice through loving jazz and improvisation. Some of my major influences in that world are Chet Baker, J.J. Johnson, Louis Armstrong, and Wayne Shorter. I’m also super into indie music and love Big Thief, Wednesday, Soccer Mommy, Haley Heynderickx, and Andy Shauf.
When I’m not making music: When I’m not making music, I’m reading, hiking, playing basketball, or generally in the woods somewhere. I like to write fiction, though I am much less practiced than I am musically.
Favorite place in Maine: Cutler Coast
