 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely! You can sign up for lessons at any time and the price will be adjusted according to how many lessons are left in the semester.

  • Yes! 317 Main offers lessons and some ensembles online via Zoom. Please email or call the Registrar and they will accommodate you to the best of our ability.

  • Jackrabbit is our community portal which allows you to sign up for some classes, camps, pay your bill, purchase tickets for events, and even buy merchandise! Creating an account is FREE for everyone and can be done so with your first registration or ticket purchase for an event.

  • We welcome students of all ages. Enrollment in private, semi-private, and group lessons is offered to musicians of all abilities. Our Little Roots program offers a range of group classes for children ages 0-7 and our Deep Roots program is geared toward students 55 and older.

  • If you’re unsure, you can always start by taking a trial lesson. The purpose of a trial lesson is for the teacher to assess the musician’s level of interest and commitment, and to determine if the lesson will be a good fit for both student and teacher. Payment for this lesson is due at the time of the lesson. After the initial lesson, the student may choose to continue for the remainder of the current session. Payment for continued lessons is due at the time of scheduling. 317 Main reserves the right to honor teachers’ considerations in any teaching situation. Please contact the Registrar to begin this process!

  • We do not currently rent instruments for student use. Students should bring their own instruments to lessons. For rentals, please call:

Dube’s Music Shop: (207) 208-0430 (rental, repair, and more in Freeport)

    Buckdancer’s Choice: 774-2219 (guitar, mandolin)

Music & Arts: 797-3494 (cello, violin & wind)

    Andy Buckland: 207-491-7690 (string instruments)

    Frost Gully: 865-0818 (cello, violin)

If it’s a first lesson, we can usually let a student borrow an instrument, but please call ahead to be sure we have one available in the right size.

  • Make-up lessons will not be given for student absences, but all teacher absences or cancellations will be rescheduled, usually during the final week of the schedule. All make-up lessons are scheduled by the teacher at a time that is mutually convenient to teacher and student.

  • Payment is required at the beginning of each session and is non-refundable. In cases of medical or family emergency, students should consult with the Front Desk at 207-846-9559.

  • For all questions related to tuition payments or financial aid, please contact Marie by emailing frontdesk@317main.org or calling her at extension 2.

  • 317 Main wants everyone who has interest to have the same opportunities to participate in the many music education and enrichment opportunities that 317 Main offers.
