Where Musical Joy Begins

At 317 Main, early music education grows with your child. Our Little Roots, Explorer, and Discovery programs offer a welcoming pathway from a child’s very first musical moments through their early years of creative confidence.

Families begin by singing, moving, and playing together in Little Roots; young learners then step into Explorer classes to try instruments, rhythms, and ensemble play; and Discovery builds on those foundations with deeper musical skills, curiosity, and collaboration. Together, these experiences nurture joyful learners, strengthen family connections, and invite every child to experience music as a natural and vibrant part of their world.

Explore Classes

Little ones sing, wiggle, and explore simple instruments right alongside their grown-ups. Then in Ready, Set, Grow, children explore their singing voices, play rhythm instruments, and learn through joyful singing games and movement.

Designed for kindergarten and first-grade learners, Explorer classes introduce children to fiddle, piano, and ukulele while weaving in singing, movement, and musical play—building skills and confidence for Discovery classes and beyond.

Young musicians explore singing, rhythm, and instruments in a playful, low-pressure setting. It’s all about trying new sounds, noticing how music works, and having fun together.

    Frequency of Classes:

Daycares and preschools that sign up for weekly or every other week classes will receive priority in scheduling and booking services.  We recommend regularly scheduled classes because they help students learn the songs, routines, and enjoy the music they are learning. Monthly or one-off classes can also be booked based on availability.  Libraries and other community facilities that provide “drop-in” classes for families can host classes weekly, every other week, or monthly classes.

    Payments:

Payments for Little Roots on the Go classes must be made by cash or check and made out to 317 Main Community Music Center and mailed to:

In the event that the organization chooses to close their facility due to inclement weather or a power outage, 317 Main is not responsible for making up the class.

Say Hello To The Team

Our experienced Teaching Artists create a warm, welcoming space where every child—and every caregiver—can enjoy the wonder of making music together.

Emma Undine Wiegand

Emma is a playful, warm early-childhood music educator who teaches Family, Infant, Ready Set Grow, and Little Roots on the Go classes. Certified in First Steps in Music and trained in theatre, she brings storytelling, silliness, and joyful community-building to every session, helping children and caregivers feel connected and excited to make music together. When she’s not teaching, she’s exploring the woods with her pups or curled up with a good book—often near the water at her beloved Willard Beach.

Ted DeMille

Ted is a longtime singer-songwriter and educator who brings warmth, imagination, and decades of teaching experience to Little Roots. He has written more than 150 songs—including four family music albums—and loves helping children and caregivers discover the magic of singing and playing together. When he’s not teaching, he’s writing songs and stories, making collage, or performing with his bands Magic 8 Ball and Old Eleven.

Miranda MacDonald

Miranda is a vocalist and early-childhood music educator who creates joyful, welcoming spaces where little ones and their caregivers can sing, move, and explore together. With roots in Halifax and Rhode Island, a degree in Music Education, and a lifelong love of folk and choral music, she brings warmth, playfulness, and rich musical influences to every class. When she’s not teaching, she’s often baking, crocheting, or enjoying great food around Maine with her two pups.

David Bartoletti

David is a pianist, organist, and early-childhood music educator who brings warmth, play, and curiosity to his Little Roots classes. A lifelong musician, he’s performed everywhere from cathedral choirs to touring rock and jam bands, and now enjoys helping young families explore music through song, movement, and simple instruments. He lives in Maine with his family, where he’s often found at the piano playing Mister Rogers for his two young daughters.
