Samuel James, Live In Founder’s Hall

Samuel James is a musician, journalist and storyteller. As a musician, James has been touring internationally for more than fifteen years, performing in the Black American Folk Tradition. He has released seven albums, scored film soundtracks and museum exhibits. James' award-winning songwriting has been compared to Leonard Cohen's and his guitar virtuosity to that of Jimi Hendrix.

Jawahir Arabic Music Ensemble

Jawahir Arabic Music Ensemble performs classical and popular Arabic and Ottoman music of the 17thto the 21st centuries. The group features Maria Wagner on nay, Duncan Hardy on qanun, Madeleine Hannaon voice and oud, and Dorothy Barker on riqq, darbuka and duff. Jawahir means ‘jewels’ in Arabic and the group endeavors to uncover and share some of the rich variety of musical traditions from the Middle East, both past and present.
