Noah Fishman
Noah Fishman is a performer, composer, and educator. Rooted in Maine, Noah ventures to make bold, playful statements by bending lines between genres. At home on a number of instruments, Noah strives for creativity and connection, spirited performance, and fluid improvisation.
Noah has performed across the United States and Europe, and has degrees in music from Princeton University and the University of Michigan. In 2019, Noah was selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead residency at The Kennedy Center.
In addition to his work as a soloist and bandleader, Noah can be found touring with other artists, writing scores for film and television, and teaching at camps and workshops. Noah currently teaches mandolin and roots music courses at New England Conservatory, and is a returning faculty member at Acadia Trad Fest. Beyond music, Noah enjoys sailing, woodworking, gardening, and getting lost along the rocky coast of Maine.
Pronouns: he/him/his
Teaches (instruments): mandolin, electric bass, upright bass, guitar, clawhammer banjo, songwriting & composition
Teaching Philosophy: Follow your ear, follow your interests, focus on play, and explore achievable goals
Music Influences: Early influences included Punch Brothers, Victor Wooten, Avishai Cohen, Becca Stevens, and The Beatles. These days I’m often listening to nordic bands like Frigg or Väsen, songwriters like Madison Cunningham, jazz albums from Bill Evans, or old time banjo from Adam Hurt.
When I’m not making music: You can find me with friends, cooking, sailing, hiking, woodworking, or doing a crossword puzzle
Favorite Place in Maine: Belfast, my hometown! I also love the Bold Coast Trail in Cutler, Greens Island off of Vinalhaven, the entire Portland area, Rangeley, and Stonington.
