Open to teens ages 12-18. Join internationally renowned musicians McCoy Mrubata and Gary Wittner for an engaging workshop on South African music, featuring Mrubata’s composition “Bra Gib” Workshop attendees will have the opportunity to listen to McCoy’s recording and practice the music. At the workshop McCoy and Gary will coach the attendees in correct performance of his tune and work on improvisation. You can find the music and recording of “Bra Gib” HERE. “Bra Gib” references Gibson Kente, who was a great player writer in the sixties up until he passed away in the late nineties. He was regarded as the father of black theater in South Africa and many actors and playwriters that were in his plays are legends now. Please note that the last measure of the music should be in 9/8 (same as recording), and not in 12/8 as notated.
